Successful completion of second Damen SOV 9020
In October 2019, Alewijnse Marine delivered its project scope for the Bibby WaveMaster Horizon, the second Service Operations Vessel (SOV) 9020 built at Damen Shipyards Galati.

Alewijnse Marine Galati was the chosen contractor to deliver cabling and electrical installations to the Bibby WaveMaster Horizon.
Innovative Vessel
The 90-meter vessel has been designed for the North Sea area to be deployed for both conventional oil and gas maintenance duties, as well as for wind farm maintenance and support. Damen developed this new class of purpose-built Service Operations Vessels in consultation with the offshore renewables industry (see: https://products.damen.com/en/ranges/walk-to-work-vessel/w2w-9020). The design is an entirely new concept from the ground up, combining DP-2 capability, a motion-compensated gangway, innovative hull design, smart internal layout and a range of additional innovations designed to increase efficiencies and reduce costs. Alewijnse was involved in building and outfitting both of the currently operational ships.
Expertise
Catalin Androne, Alewijnse’s Project Manager for both the first and second SOV 9020, comments: “Working on the first W2W vessel back in 2017 provided us with valuable lessons and specific insights on how to tackle this project and avoid potential shortcomings. At the peak of the project, Alewijnse had as many as 80 electricians working on board. We were able, through the site management team, to work in partnership with the yard and coordinate onboard activities together. All the previous experience and this combined way of working had a significant impact on the project result. In the end, we were proud to deliver on time and at high standards”.
