Integrating electrical systems on record-breaking Vietnamese bulk carrier
Alewijnse is proud to announce that it has made a significant contribution to the successful delivery of Truong Minh 02, the largest bulk carrier to be built in Vietnam to date.
As the comprehensive electrical and automation contractor, Alewijnse played a significant role in the project, delivering a complete, full-package solution that sets a new benchmark for Vietnam’s maritime industry.
Setting new standards in Vietnamese shipbuilding
The delivery of the Truong Minh 02 marks a significant milestone for Vietnam’s shipbuilding capability. With a length of nearly 200 metres and a deadweight of 65,000 tons, the vessel demonstrates the country’s growing expertise in delivering high-specification bulk carriers in compliance with international regulations.
Exclusive electrical and automation partner
For this project, Alewijnse acted as the single-point electrical and automation partner, providing a full package from engineering and manufacturing to installation support, commissioning and sea trials. This beginning-to-end approach has ensured that Alewijnse’s responsibilities has extended beyond equipment assembly, guaranteeing outstanding system performance, compliance verification and operational readiness prior to vessel handover.
Alewijnse’s comprehensive scope of work includes:
- Drafting the engineering plans and the developing of the complete electrical architecture in compliance with the standards of ClassNK and Vietnam Register.
- Alarm & Monitoring System (AMS) and its integration in a centralised monitoring platform serving as the vessel’s digital control backbone, enabling real-time supervision and operational safety.
- Manufacturing the switchboards and consoles and ensuring the precision of their assembly. Thereafter the main switchboards (MSB), emergency switchboards (ESB) and customised bridge and engine control consoles were tested prior to installation.
- Commissioning and sea trials: these involved on-site system integration, harbour acceptance testing (HAT), commissioning procedures and sea trials support to verify full operational reliability under real sailing conditions.
A strategic investment by Dongbacshin
Dongbacshin is a prominent Vietnamese shipbuilding investor and maritime enterprise with a strong focus on developing modern, high-capacity vessels that meet international operational and safety standards. The successful construction of Truong Minh 02, the largest project of its kind to be built domestically, reflects Dongbacshin’s strategic vision to strengthen Vietnam’s commercial fleet and enhance competitiveness in the global bulk carrier market.
Global standards, local execution
The advanced electrical and automation infrastructure installed on Truong Minh 02 reflects Alewijnse’s ability to deliver global engineering standards locally in Vietnam and elsewhere. Its rigorous quality control and structured project management ensured that the vessel is equipped with a robust, future-ready electrical platform designed for long-term reliability.
"Being the comprehensive electrical partner for the largest bulk carrier made in Vietnam is a proud milestone for our team," said Mr. Tran Ngoc Duong, Deputy General Manager at Alewijnse Marine Vietnam. "By delivering a full-package solution from engineering design to commissioning and sea trials we have once again demonstrated our capability to execute complex maritime projects to international standards."
A milestone for Ha Long shipyard
The successful launch at Ha Long Shipyard highlights Vietnam’s growing capabilities in large-scale commercial shipbuilding. The Truong Minh 02 project reflects the strong collaboration between investor, shipyard and international technology partner, marking another confident step toward global competitiveness for Vietnam’s maritime industry.
