Electrical expertise supports the transformation of a 92.9m yacht into a purpose-built exploration vessel

Alewijnse powers next chapter of Oceanco's Draak

Working closely with Oceanco, the crew, owner representatives and fellow co-makers, Alewijnse upgraded key electrical and automation systems to support Draak’s new operational role.

Alewijnse’s scope included the renewal of the Alarm, Monitoring and Control System (AMCS) and the Power Management System (PMS), the installation of a new shore power converter, and upgrades to the vessel’s interior lighting and cabling infrastructure supporting the enhanced AVIT and navigation systems.

A major part of the project was the modernisation of Draak’s technical backbone, including the replacement and upgrade of the AVIT infrastructure. This required routing more than 18 kilometers of new cabling through existing pathways while integrating new systems into the existing yacht platform

Draak demonstrates what can be achieved when an existing yacht is transformed for a completely new operational purpose. Through close cooperation with Oceanco and all project partners, we delivered advanced electrical solutions that support the yacht’s new role in research, exploration and long-range operations.

Diederick van Welij, Project Manager at Alewijnse

Previously known as Equanimity and Tranquility, Draak has been reimagined as a companion yacht to Leviathan, supporting the owner’s research and exploration activities through Inkfish. The rebuild highlights the expanding role of lifecycle solutions in the superyacht industry, demonstrating how existing yachts can evolve while maintaining their original quality and design integrity.

Alewijnse is proud to have contributed its expertise in electrical engineering, automation and marine technology to this exceptional project, supporting the next chapter in Draak’s operational journey.
