A complete transformation: Alewijnse electrifies superyacht MOONSTONE
Alewijnse has successfully completed the electrical system integration onboard the superyacht MOONSTONE. Over the past 26 months the vessel has undergone a complete exterior and interior transformation at Damen Yachting in Vlissingen. The now 79.2 metre superyacht, originally named ALBATROSS, and built by Delta Marine, has departed ahead of her private itinerary this summer with her owners.
Innovative system integration and high-tech solutions for a cutting-edge yacht
The refit was from far but a standard project. An important element of the refit was the seamless extension of the yacht, achieved while preserving optimal stability through the redesign of multiple technical systems.
Multiple key areas of the yacht have been significantly upgraded. The Sun Deck has been transformed into a vibrant social space with a stylish bar and a winter garden has been added on Bridge Deck creating new space for dining entertainment and relaxation. The Owners Deck now features a jacuzzi and a swimming pool has been added on Main Deck. The Lower Deck now has an expansive swim platform, providing easy access to the water for swimming, water sports, or lounging by the sea.
An impressive superyacht
Mitch Opmeer, Project Manager at Alewijnse, stated: “This was an incredible project. We had previously worked with the owner on a new-build and have collaborated with Damen Yachting for many years. An experienced electrical partner is crucial for a refit since new designs often need to be developed during the construction process. Our experience enables us to provide valuable insights into system design, and our team has collaborated seamlessly with our client to install the electrical systems.”
For this impressive superyacht Alewijnse designed, replaced and installed a wide range of electrical systems. These included those for public address (PA) and general alarm (GA), fire detection, as well as all the onboard lighting. A specialised team was also assembled and trained to install the 450 metre length of LED lighting around the yacht’s exterior.
High-power shore connection convertor
A major milestone in the project was the installation of a high-power shore connection converter with CleanNet™ distribution, which brought power onboard for the first time in late October. Mitch Opmeer explains: “This shore converter has an exceptionally high capacity, eliminating the need for additional diesel generators. It is also equipped with a water-cooled system, which is significantly more energy-efficient than traditional air-cooled systems. For yachts that spend long periods docked in warm climates, this translates to significant energy savings and so a substantial reduction in emissions.”
Fit for any refit
Alewijnse is proud to have a highly skilled team capable of handling all types of refits for yachts and other vessels. With the integration of Tijssen Elektro, the company has also strengthened its expertise in yachts under 60 metres. “In La Ciotat, Barcelona, and Palma de Mallorca, we have dedicated teams ready to carry out refits and maintenance for yachts of all sizes,” says Dick Breure. “Many vessels return to us because we originally installed their systems, making us the most knowledgeable partner for successfully upgrading their electrical systems.” “We are ready for any refit,” concludes Mitch Opmeer.
