Alewijnse partners with Damen Naval to deliver complete electrical and automation package for Colombian Navy’s PES Frigate
Alewijnse has signed a contract with Damen Naval to manage the complete integration and installation of all electrical systems on board the PES (Plataforma Estratégica de Superficie) frigate, which is being constructed for the Navy of the Republic of Colombia. This collaboration brings together Damen Naval’s renowned design expertise and Alewijnse’s deep knowledge of advanced electrical systems to deliver a naval solution precisely tailored to Colombia’s operational needs.

Strategic alliance with focus on local content
Under the contract, Alewijnse will be responsible for the design, engineering, and testing of all onboard electrical systems. The scope also includes full cable routing across the vessel and the supply of key systems such as power management, propulsion, entertainment, and navigation lighting. A key focus of the project is the incorporation of local content, with clear targets for sourcing components and services from within Colombia.
As one of our co-makers and main suppliers, Alewijnse will play a crucial role in determining the success of the PES project. Therefore, I am pleased to see Alewijnse also teaming up to support the local content efforts with the aim to involve the Colombian market.

Trusted partners
Alewijnse will collaborate with several trusted partners to deliver various onboard subsystems. The propulsion drive system, featuring high-performance electric motors, will be supplied in partnership with Van Meer, a long-standing partner of Damen Shipyards. This marks Van Meer’s first participation in a naval project, made possible through the joint support of Alewijnse and Damen Naval.
The Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) will be developed and delivered in cooperation with Praxis Automation. Jointly designed by Damen Naval and Alewijnse, this system represents a forward-looking solution for modern naval operations.
The Integrated Bridge Management System (IBMS) will be supplied in collaboration with Anschütz GmbH, a leader in maritime navigation technology. As a certified sales and service partner of Anschütz, Alewijnse will ensure seamless integration and long-term support for this mission-critical system.

Focus on local content
The contract includes clear goals for sourcing locally with Colombia. “Together with Damen Naval, we are working to identify Colombian partners who can support the construction of the frigate,” explains Maurice Seijkens, Manager Sales at Alewijnse. “We have already made several visits to Colombia and hosted a delegation from the Colombian Navy and shipbuilder Cotecmar. The local shipbuilding industry is developing rapidly, and we have encountered many enthusiastic companies eager to contribute and gain experience.”
Proven naval experience
Alewijnse was selected as Damen’s primary partner for electrical system integration based on a long-standing and successful collaboration history. Together, the two companies have delivered numerous complex defence and security projects for navies around the world. Their most recent joint effort was the Combat Support Ship Den Helder.
We look forward to starting the project, Our partners value our ability to support their projects, wherever they may be, and to work seamlessly with both traditional and new local suppliers. By focusing on quality and flexibility, we deliver real added value to our customers.
