Last week Martijn Vroom, the mayor of Krimpen aan den Ijssel, paid a working visit to the branch of international system integrator Alewijnse Marine situated in his municipality, to further his understanding of the company. As well as a tour of the office he was given a guided tour of the pilot vessel Pollux operated by Nederlands Loodswezen, which is currently docked for repairs at the Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam yard.
Alewijnse has been commissioned to maintain and repair some of the electrical installations on board the Pollux including the lighting and wipers in the wheelhouse and the cabling below decks for power distribution, lighting and the public alarm (PA), general alarm (GA) and fire alarm systems.
The mayor, who was dressed in an Alewijnse safety jacket for the occasion (left in the picture), greatly enjoyed exploring the pilot vessel and thought it was fascinating to watch the Alewijnse team at work. Afterwards he declared that he had learned a lot about the wonderful world of electrical engineering.
