Major refit MSV Seawell

MSV Seawell

Alewijnse Marine has successfully carried out the full electrical refit of the 114-metre light well intervention / diving support vessel MSV Seawell, owned by Helix Energy Solutions Group and operated by Helix Well Ops UK. Launched in 1987, the Seawell has spent ten months in 2015 at the Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen yard undergoing a major refit.

Alewijnse was responsible for a part of the supply, installation, integration and commissioning of the critical electrical systems.

Full electrical refit

The Seawell is one of the largest, single ship contracts that Alewijnse has undertaken and the full electrical refit has been a highly complex and sophisticated project. The main element was the delivery of a full turnkey package for the installation of the electrical power and distribution systems. This included an upgrade of the vessel management system, installation of cabling for renewal of other important systems such as the derrick, main gensets, power management system and several switchboards including the 6kV and 440V units. Alewijnse also supplied steelwork for the mounting of various items of electrical equipment and for cable supports.

Track record

The MSV Seawell has an impressive track record that includes saturation diving and riser-based and riserless well intervention work.  Since 1987 she has accessed more than 650 wells and decommissioned more than 150 live and suspended wells and 15 subsea fields.

Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen

Alewijnse and Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen (part of Damen Shiprepair & Conversion) have enjoyed a close working relationship for a number of years, and this contract is the most recent in a series of successful projects undertaken together.

Challenge

Mitch Opmeer, Alewijnse’s Seawell Project Manager, states: “This has been a challenging project for Alewijnse and Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen due to the short execution time and the Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) requirements of the client. Great and consistent cooperation between the different parties including Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen, Alewijnse, Helix and the other subcontractors has ensured a result of which everybody can be proud”.
