The ambition of Jonas Stoter, aged 20, is to manage his own project team. He is currently working as a service engineer at Alewijnse Marine while at the same time taking a level 4 professional practical skills course in electro-technical systems at Technical College Rotterdam. "My heart is to motivate and manage other people."
“The last project I worked on was on board a highly sophisticated hopper dredger,” says Jonas. “I spent time working alongside a commissioning engineer; checking panels and making changes where needed. During my time there I realised that what I wanted was to gain a complete overview of major projects like that one. My most interesting experience was making modifications to the panels independently. This involved receiving a series of drawings and then finding the corresponding materials and tools needed for the works. This exercise allowed me to be involved in the process from beginning to end.
“My long-term goal is to become a chief electrician and motivate and manage my own project teams. I want to learn how to approach and execute a project from A to Z. Besides managing people, I’d also like to gain more knowledge of the many different systems on board vessels. I am convinced that Alewijnse can get me there.”
