Following a call for projects ending September 29th 2017, the Dutch system integrator Alewijnse Marine and La Ciotat Shipyard management SEMIDEP have agreed to continue and expand the presence of Alewijnse Marine at La Ciotat shipyard, France. Both companies believe in a promising future for La Ciotat as a major superyacht refit hub in the Mediterranean.
To demonstrate their commitment to this fruitful cooperation, the contract for continuation was signed and celebrated at the Monaco Yacht Show in the presence of an audience of international journalists and invitees. This announcement took place at 29th of September 2017 at 11AM on the stand of Alewijnse Marine at the Monaco Yacht Show, QP56, Parvis Piscine.
Alewijnse delivers added value to the shipyard as it has demonstrated in recent years that it is able to provide a fast and high-quality service to the superyachts that use the yard, having worked on more than 50 superyachts in excess of 55 meters.
With its experience of working on new-build superyachts, Alewijnse offers an additional reason for yachts to choose La Ciotat when refits or service is required from a reliable partner. As the yard’s infrastructure is first class and its facilities can take yachts up to any size, the partnership between the two companies will play an important role in attracting the larger and more complex refits to La Ciotat.
As well as the mutual benefits described above, the continuation of the partnership will bring other advantages to the region including employment, the transfer of technology, and traineeships to encourage local people to work at La Ciotat Shipyards. Alewijnse is an all-round system integrator which is very experienced in setting up satellite facilities abroad. This approach fits well with SEMIDEP’s stated aim of fostering the durable and sustainable economic development of the shipyard, with specific attention drawn to permanent job creation.
Alewijnse’s success was also noticed by the French Chambre of Commerce in 2016 when the company was awarded with the prestigious Business Development Award for Dutch companies doing business in France. It recognised the success of Alewijnse in setting up and then expanding its subsidiary at La Ciotat. The judging criteria included looking at the growth in turnover in the host country and the relative share of that turnover to the total income of the company. Other factors that were considered included the strategy and competitive position of Alewijnse in La Ciotat.
Alewijnse Marine delivers innovative electrical engineering, automation, navigation and ICT solutions and technical services to luxury yachts. With the full support of La Ciotat Shipyards - SEMIDEP and Provence Promotion (the local French Economic Development Agency), Alewijnse opened and expanded its facility at La Ciotat Shipyards.
Today both parties are gathered at the Monaco Yacht Show to formalise and celebrate the continuation of their successful partnership.
