On the day before the Vietship International Exhibition of Shipbuilding 2018 (24-26 January) begins in Hanoi, the management of Alewijnse Marine is holding the grand opening of its new switchboard production facility in Haiphong, Vietnam. With this sophisticated addition to its local resources, Alewijnse has increased its capacity to respond to the rapid growth in requests for premium quality switchboards. This demand has come from the sustained growth of the maritime industry in Vietnam in recent years.
To respond to this trend, Alewijnse decided to invest in a state-of-the-art switchboard production facility at their new build premises in Haiphong, to replace the old production capacity. This new workshop is equipped with lean production lines for the manufacture of custom-built switchboards. Alongside the production hall, a new building has been constructed and equipped as an office for management, administration and engineering.
The new switchboard location is Alewijnse’s third production location for marine switchboards and consoles. Other substantial facilities are situated in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and in Galati, Romania. By using modern techniques and lean process management guided by the European departments, this state-of-the-art facility can provide state-of-the-art switchboards and consoles at competitive prices, which will benefit the shipbuilding companies in Vietnam and across the wider region.
A strategic investment
Mr Pieter Smit (Director International) and Mr Sander Doves (Marketing & Sales Director) will be in Vietnam for the Vietship International Exhibition of Shipbuilding, where Alewijnse will have its own booth. As part of that visit these senior managers are also officially opening the new facilities.
Pieter Smit comments: “This new production facility fits Alewijnse’s strategic plan to expand in promising areas like Vietnam. We have been in the country for some years already, but with shipbuilding activity continuing to shift from Europe to Eurasia, we are actively investing to keep pace with this development. With this new facility in this location, we can serve our clients in South-East Asia better and supply switchboards at the same level of quality that they are used to receiving in Holland or Romania.”
As a system integrator offering a full range of packages and services, Alewijnse delivers a round-the-clock, global service that covers the design, engineering, installation, integration and maintenance of all types of electrical and electro-mechanical systems. It also has the resources and skills needed to work on any type of sea-going vessel and installation. The company has many years of experience in the maritime sector and today supports many European and other highly demanding customers via its worldwide network of branches.
